30.8.2018 Waste sorting being developed at PSOAS
In our annual tenanct satisfaction surveys, waste sorting has often stood out as an area that people wish to be developed. During the ongoing year we have taken measures to answer their call.
As a part of the development process we have also taken a look at our contractorship and decided to choose Jätehuolto Nuojua Oy as our new partner in waste collection. Waste bins of Lassila & Tikanoja, the previous contractor, are now being replaced by the bins of the new contractor. The new ones placed inside the collection points are the ones to be used by tenants. The bins outside are not to be used anymore and will be collected by Lassila & Tikanoja next week.
In addition to looking at the contractorship, also collection points have been examined and cleaned up. At the same time a development plan has been made for fixing and improving them. Some collection points are already being worked on while some work will be included in the next year’s budget.
We hope the measures we have taken will make it easier for tenants to sort their waste. Even the best collection point will not work without tenants’ contribution and we hope that everyone will do their part in this project.

11.7.2018 Some tips for the apartment search
Since the schools’ admissions were published recently, the student housing peak season has been on. We would like to congratulate all new students for their study place and share some tips for the apartment search:
- As the summer moves on, options become fewer. Therefore, it is advisable to apply for an apartment as soon as possible and, also, begin the rental period as early as possible. At the moment the demand for September is high, whereas in July and August there are still more options.
- Different apartment types should be considered with an open mind. The demand for studios is high whereas the availability is rather low. Shared apartments and family apartments on the other hand, are easier to find. It is also possible to apply for a family apartment alone and sometimes even find one for a monthly rent of close to 400 €. Sharing the apartment with someone is the most affordable form of living. One can apply for a shared apartment either with a friend or alone.
- Housing application should not be too restrictive. For instance, limiting one’s options to only one district or a certain floor will prolong the waiting time substantially.
Good luck for the apartment search! Let’s work together to find the best possible solution for you. The accommodation office will be delighted to answer any questions you might have.
